Camp Zion Receives Conditional Use Permit, Holds Groundbreaking

A Long Journey

Life’s journeys are rarely easy or trouble free, and usually include frustration, pain, and angst. The road to building a new dining hall has involved more than its fair share of challenges, but the ride has never been boring!  We beleive that God has guided us the whole way.

God always wants what is best for us, and always has a better plan.

After being turned down for a Conditional Use Permit by the Door County Board of Adjustment twice in 5 years, the camp filed suit against the County in federal court in August of 2020. On September 30, 2021, the Door County Resource Planning Committee approved a settlement agreement, which included the granting of a Conditional Use Permit. In a separate meeting, the Zoning Board of Adjustment reached the same conclusion. The CUP was granted on October 1, 2021.

It is time to put the past behind us and move forward.

Saturday, November 6, 2021 was a fun and exiting day as we held a groundbreaking ceremony on the site. The Camp Zion Leadership Team was present, as well as Millennium Construction (Construction Management/General Contractor), JF Construction (excavators), and a several local and out of town guests. Camp Zion is grateful for the steadfast support and participation of our friends and donors throughout the entire dining hall permit process over the last 6 years. While an appeal has recently been filed against the County’s decision by a small group of people in the neighborhood, we are forging ahead with pre-construction efforts. Camp owns 31.5 acres, and the building will be located far away from the appellants. We believe their claims are baseless. God is in control, and we are confident that He will frustrate their efforts and see the project through.

We have been fundraising and saving money for this project for 13 years, and have about 3/4 of the funds in hand. We welcome contributions of any size to help us reach our goal.

We are thankful to God, and very excited about entering this next phase of this much-needed and wonderful facility!

To God Be The Glory!
